Occasion Wear with Littlewoods Ireland

Hey ladies

It’s that time of year and occasion wear is top of everyone’s list right now. Occasion wear is by far the most requested blog post; we get so many emails every day asking for ideas and inspiration for weddings, the races, communion and confirmation.

So with that in mind, I am delighted to say I have teamed up with Littlewoods Ireland to bring you my top Occasion Wear picks from their current collection. They have so much on offer and so many amazing brands to choose from including the likes of Coast, Ted Baker, Little Mistress and Miss Selfridge to name just a few, so trust me you won’t be disappointed!

In fact, I was only supposed to wear one look for this photoshoot but I fell in love with both and I couldn’t choose between them! Both the looks I am wearing here are head-to-toe from the V By Very range available exclusively at Littlewoods Ireland. On top of the two looks I’ve worn here, I’ve styled 5 more looks top-to-toe so hopefully you’ll get some ideas and inspiration.

I love this look, I am a big fan of opting for skirt and top for occasion wear as you can wear both pieces again separately – This embellished top is a great fit and would be fab worn again with high waisted trousers. Plus I’m obsessed with this velvet pleated skirt, such a flattering fit on. This entire look head-to-toe comes in at under €150!!

Top, €52  **  Skirt, €42  ** Heels €35 ** Clutch Bag, €20

The moment I saw this stunning blue lace dress I completely fell in love with it. I adore the shape and style… and the sleeves… did I mention the sleeves? Stunning detail on it. This versatile clutch was the perfect accessory and these elegant nude heels (which have beautiful pearl detail on the back) really finish the look.

Dress, €90  ** Heels, €42 ** Clutch Bag, €35

Denim Prep Style with Marks & Spencers

Hey ladies

I teamed up with Marks & Spencer recently for a really fun collaboration showcasing their fabulous denim collection. You can read my previous blog post and the other look I shared from them here. When I was approached by Marks & Spencer about this collaboration, I instantly accepted, they are a fantastic brand and often overlooked. This collaboration is a great opportunity to get people to have a look at what M&S really has to offer, for all ages.

As a mum too my 16 month little monkey Anabelle Ivy, I am always, always on the go so my ‘mammy uniform’ is a staple of jeans, knits and usually loafers or trainers. I sometimes feel we can get stuck in a rut with our day time clothes, we always tend to put so much effort and time into our occasion wear and then when it comes to every day we don’t try as hard. Speaking for me anyway, I always feel better and more confident if I like my outfit and if I feel comfortable, it definitely has an impact on my mood. So when this opportunity came my way, I instantly knew I wanted to style every day, easy, simple, wearable looks. Pieces that could be intertwined through your whole wardrobe and worn over and over again in lots of different ways.

Given we are approaching Spring, I wanted to add a splash of colour, plus I wanted to showcase the stunning range of coloured skinny jeans on offer at Marks & Spencer.

Grey is huge for SS17, so I was instantly drawn to these gunmetal grey skinny jeans. They are skinny style jeans but not super super skinny, there is nice flexibility and movement in them, but in saying that they are nice and skinny right down to the ankle (which I love). They are a mid rise waist, always a plus, I just can’t wear low rise jeans at all, and especially not when I am constantly bending down to pick up Anabelle Ivy. Again, like the previous jeans I showed from Marks & Spencer they are a standard fit. If you tend to fall between sizes I would definitely suggest you go down a size. These jeans are €30 I got the shade ‘Gunmetal’, see them here but they also come in NINE other colours, including; this fab plum colour (see here) and green (see here) as well as off white, pink, brown and red.

To view the full denim collection available at Marks & Spencers see here

Grey and pink are always a great combination so this beautiful pink oversized jumper was an easy choice. I love the shape and style of this jumper, perfect for layering. I also love how this jumper is a loose fit – perfect for over skinny jeans, plus I like how it is slightly longer at the back. This jumper is €27 and you can see it here. It also comes in cream, navy or khaki.

We are seeing lots of this style of striped shirt on the high street right now and I am loving it, I love a striped shirt styled under a jumper like this, plus the blue & white stripe really make the pink pop! This striped shirt is €40 and you can see it here.

And last but wow certainly not least…. The shoes… Oh my word these shoes are to die for!!!! I am in love. They are €35 and as well as the grey colour I wore they also come in denim! Divine!! You can see them here. They are like wearing slippers, so comfortable. Such a nice change to feel so comfortable in a photoshoot.

Denim Days with Marks & Spencer

Hey ladies

I’m delighted to share this post with you.  Over the past 16 months I have taken a small step back from The Style Fairy to focus on Anabelle Ivy, but now she is getting a little bigger it is time for me to get back at it more. So when I was approached by Marks & Spencer to collaborate with them on a blog post showcasing their denim collection I was thrilled.

As a mammy, I am all about comfort, gone be with the days of high heels on a mid week day, now it’s all about trainers (if you follow on Snapchat you’ll know I’ve become trainer obsessed – My username is: thestylefairy), great fitting skinny jeans and soft, cosy knits. It’s a look I love, feel good in and feel comfortable in. So often on the blog we feature occasion wear, well with this post I wanted the focus to be on stylish, simple every day looks.

This first look from Marks & Spencer ticks all those boxes; the fit of these skinny jeans is amazing, and I especially love that they are high waisted, what woman doesn’t love mid or high waisted jeans? Well I certainly do. Two main reasons, one they conceal that jiggly part of your tummy which most of us are a bit conscious of and two if, like me, you are bending down to lift a baby or a toddler up all the time, you are not flashing off skin at the back!! They really hold you in, plus there is a great stretch in them too, so they are comfortable to wear. I decided to roll up the bottoms, not because they were too long, but I just like how that looks with trainers and it adds some detail to the look. These skinny jeans are €34 and you can view them in more detail here. You can see a similar style pair of jeans here.

I styled the jeans with these chunky metallic plimsoll trainers and quite honestly I know I’ll be living in these; so so comfy and yet the metallic colour makes them so stylish and chic looking, plus this colour goes with everything. The trainers are €27 and also come in white, pink and navy. You can check them out here.

Last but certainly not least, I instantly fell in love with this embroidered jumper, this embroidered look is a huge trend for SS17. This is a really high quality knit jumper, plus I love the funnel neck detail. Moving more towards spring you could style this jumper with coloured jeans too, picking up on the colours in the embroidery. This jumper is €54 and you can see it in more detail here. It would also look great styled with these coloured  jeans; see here and here.

I shot this look in Grand Canal Dock with the hugely talented photographer Bríd O’Donovan, I hadn’t worked on a shoot in ages but Bríd instantly made me relax, plus this whole outfit was very true to me and a look I would wear myself anyway so that made me feel relaxed and comfortable. It rained pretty much throughout the shoot, but we powered on and the pictures turned out great.

Size wise with the jeans I would call them standard high street fit, I am a fairly standard size 10 and these were a lovely fit, if you tend to be between sizes then I would go down a size as there is a great stretch to them. These jeans are just a really good staple denim to have in your wardrobe. You can see them here or view the full denim collection at Marks & Spencer here.

Outfit Diaries: Wedding Guest

Hey ladies

This past weekend, one of my very good friends got married in the fabulous surroundings of Cabra Castle. It was such a brilliant day!

img_4247I got my dress in Covet Boudoir in Powerscourt Centre in Dublin, I just love Covet – there is always such a huge variety to choose from, plus I am a big fan of borrowing a dress for a big occasion, it’s so handy!

As always, the brilliant Deirdre O ‘Reilly did my make up – because of the style and colour of the dress, I decided to opt for something a little different with my makeup this time around and went for red lips and low key eye make up. I was so happy with how it turned out. I was really nervous about the red lips, normally I am never brave enough to embrace red lips, but I think I am converted, I loved them! Deirdre kept everything else very simple with my look.

Outfit Diaries: Holidays in Gran Canaria

Hey ladies

Well I’m back to reality after a blissful 10 days in Gran Canaria, it was so nice to get away and we had an absolute ball.  If you follow me on Snapchat you probably saw most of this already (username: thestylefairy) It was our first family holiday with Anabelle Ivy and I was quite nervous about how she would be. I was especially nervous about the flight (it’s 4 and a half hours!) To put it mildly, Anabelle is a very active little girl, she doesn’t sit still for more than a minute (I guess like any 15 month old!!) so I had no idea how she would react to being confined on the plane, but she totally surprised us. I plan to do a full blog post all about travelling with a toddler and about our overall experience and my tips on what worked well for us so stay tuned for that. I’ll do it as a seperate blog 🙂

This first blog post is just more a general overview of our trip and the links to my outfits 🙂 We stayed in the Gloria Palace Hotel in Amadores, I have been going there for about 10 years with my family so we know it really well and just love it there.

It is a really family friendly hotel, there is an excellent kids club and lots of organised activities for kids (more suited for kids from maybe 4 years and up) like tennis, ping pong, colouring, arts & crafts … all sorts! For Anabelle’s age there is a great play room full of toys we could nip in and out of when the sun was too much. Speaking of activities, the adults don’t get left out either – there’s yoga on every morning, step aerobics, tennis, water aerobics, bingo plus lots more activities you can get involved in if you get bored by the pool!! Every night at 8pm there is a kids “disco” run by the staff from the kids club so that was always great fun and oh my god Anabelle LOVED it!

We decided to go all inclusive on this trip and it was definitely worthwhile for us. It means you can nip up and down to the bar for refreshments at any time, as much bottled water as you want, snacks and so on. I really think all inclusive is a great option, especially for kids at meal times, if they don’t like something, it’s no problem you can just get up and get something else. The restaurant in the hotel is buffet style; the breakfasts are my favourite – so much choice; omelettes, scrambled eggs, loads of breads, cheeses, cereals, fruit, yogurts, pastries, the full works. Lunch again, always has a great variety; soups, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, pasta, meats, plus lots go fresh fish cooked in front of you. (There is a second restaurant on the rooftop you can eat in during the day either – They do yummy salads and sambos) Dinners are much the same as lunch, with the difference that there is a themed corner which changes every night so one night it could be Mexican food, then Greek and so on. The buffets do get a bit monotonous after a few days, on previous years I would have eaten out most nights but with Anabelle Ivy it was just handier for us to eat in the hotel mainly, although we did venture out a few nights.

My Fav Restaurants near by include:

  • Los Canarios 1 (in Arguineguin)
  • La Cantina (in Puerto Rico – walking distance)
  • Oscars (Puerto Rico – Walking distance)
  • Restaurante Guantanamo (3 mins in taxi)
  • Amadores Beach Club

The hotel also has a fabulous spa (not that I got to go this year) and if you love the beach, then the stunning Amadores Beach is a 10 minute walk away. The weather at this time of year is always really pleasant, not scorching hot, but still nice and warm and perfect for Anabelle Ivy. It was around 25 or 26 degrees during the day and around 17 or 18 at night.

A fav hang out place of mine (before I had Anabelle Ivy) was the Amadores Beach Club, very cool chill out place with great pools, great tunes and a gorgeous sunbathing area – very fancy but nice for a day!

Outfit Diaries: Wedding in Virginia Park Lodge

Hey ladies

Last weekend we attended our good friends wedding in the amazing Virginia Park Lodge, wow it’s an incredibly venue, I had heard so much about it and was so excited about it and to sample the food (off course). We were so so impressed; it’s an amazing venue and incredibly delicious food. If you have a wedding coming up there soon, you are definitely in for a treat! We were staying in the main house and rooms…oh my word the rooms are fab!!!

If you follow me on Snapchat (username: thestylefairy) you might have seen I had a bit of a wardrobe disaster two days before the wedding! Without going into all the detail again, basically I had ordered an outfit online (an ASOS skirt and a Missguided top), and never tried it on until two nights before…… NOT a good idea!

As some of you may know, I am a type one diabetic and I wear an insulin pump, which is essentially a device about the size of a phone (but ALOT thicker and chunkier) and it is connected to my tummy via a long wire, so obviously, with that attached to me 24/7 sometimes finding the right clothes to conceal it can be a nightmare!

Normally I wear it tucked into my bra and it’s not even obvious (well most of the time), so anyway, the top that I got and was SO excited to wear I tried on and I wasn’t able to wear a bra with it so I had no wear to attach the pump, the other option for my pump is to strap it to the top of my leg, BUT the skirt I bought was a tight skirt so there was no way! So, yes I was raging and stressed as I had nothing to wear and because I had been so looking forward to wearing THAT outfit. Anyway, the joys of living with Type 1 diabetes and a pump…. a story for another day! Let’s just say there were a few tears! Day to day life you just get on with it, and sometimes you even forget you are wearing it, but days like this just made me realise how restrictive it can be, and as a woman, and a woman who loves fashion, that’s hard.

Last minute (the day before the wedding) I was in Cavan, but went online and saw this dress in Covet, thankfully it was available to rent that weekend so my amazing husband picked it up for me and I tried it on the minute he got home that night, you can imagine my panic at 10pm the night before the wedding…. with not even my tan done!!!!! Anyway, I tried it on, it fit me and I LOVED it.

I felt so good in this dress, because the bottom is so full I was able to strap the pump to the top of my leg and you couldn’t see it! So Covet really saved the day (oh and my husband!!)

The top part of this dress is made from neoprene fabric so it is so stretchy and comfortable. Plus you can get away with no bra as it really holds you in, although if you were a bit bigger than me in the boob department I would suggest wearing cups.

For anyone who doesn’t know about Covet, it is a boutique based in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin and it rents designer gowns and dresses, so it’s perfect for a big occasion and they have some really beautiful stuff. Plus you get to wear designer for the day without the hefty designer price tag!

I wore this dress with my black painted Jimmy Choo heels, rose gold earrings from Parfois and a rose gold sparkly clutch bag from Jennifer Wyrnne. I absolutely adore this clutch bag and just know it will go with so much! If you’re on the hunt for a statement clutch bag and I highly recommend you check out the fabulous range Jennifer has in her boutique and online.

The morning of the wedding I had my hair done with the lovely Serena in Tibo Hair Salon in Cavan – She always does my hair and just always gets it right, I wanted really loose, undone waves for this dress and she nailed it. Then I had my make up done by the brilliant Deirdre O’Reilly. I’ll have a blog post live very soon from Deirdre with a full product list on what she used on me, but safe to say I was thrilled with how it turned out, as I always am when Deirdre dismay make up.

With all the preps done, we were on the road, slightly late (as usual). We had a brilliant day of great food, lots of wine, good friends, loads of laughing and a silly amount of dancing!

Outfit Diaries: Outfit Round Up

Hey ladies

I’ve decided that each month I am going to start doing round up of all my outfits, at least that way they are all in one place of anyone that wants to go in and have a look or is looking for links to any of the items I wore myself.

If I wear something that’s old or not in stock, I always do my best to source something similar and link that instead. This first blog is quite big as it’s my outfits from September & October, so going forward they won’t be quite as long! Links are listed under each picture and remember anything from iClothing there is 15% OFF with code TSFOT for October and TSFNOV for November.

Hope you like the post

Outfit Diaries: Tuscany

Hey ladies

Lots of you have asked me for an outfit post from my recent trip to Tuscany. So here goes…;-)

I had a spray tan done the day before I left and was delighted with how it turned out, it was a Vita Liberata spray tan and the lovely Joanne from JC Makeup did it.  Blow dry, as always, from the lovely Serena in Tibo Hair Salon in Cavan.

Wow, firstly I have to say it was the most amazing few days, I had been a bag of anxiety on the lead up to it at the thoughts of leaving my little lady at home, but she was with my mum and by all accounts she had a ball in our absence!

I travelled in this maxi dress from Onjenu - Love how comfy their dresses are. See HERE

We were in Tuscany, (Pienza to be specific) to celebrate our good friends wedding. It was the most breathtaking place – I was blown away.

We flew to Rome and then it was a 3 hour drive to our destination, we were staying in a villa called L’olmo near the beautiful town of Bagno Vignoni. Just spectacular, if you follow me on Snapchat (username: thestylefairy) you will have seen it. We arrived at 2am on the Wednesday night so I had no idea what I was waking up to on Thursday and the moment I walked outside our villa, I was speechless!

Taken by my talented hubby

Thursday we had a chilled out day by the pool, as well as exploring the area and visiting the nearby town of Bagno Vignoni.

Outfit Diaries: Off the Shoulder Stripes

Hey ladies

I wanted to share some more pics from the recent shoot I did with photographer Edel O’Malley.

This top is only €25 at iClothing (see it here) and there is an extra 15% OFF for the month of September with the code: TSF697 so it’s a complete bargain.

iClothing, €25 Shop here (extra 15% off with the code TSF697)
iClothing, €25 Shop here (extra 15% off with the code TSF697)

Similar Style Tops

You can also find some similar style tops HERE, HERE and HERE.

This style of bardot top is so universally flattering – it is loose and comfy around the tummy areas, plus it is a slightly longer length (so ideal for wearing with skinnies) and it emphasises your shoulders – no matter your size or shape, your shoulders are always going to be a really elegant, feminine focal point, and this style top really draws the eye to slim shoulders. Top Tip: Apply some body highlighter or shimmer to the collar bone area and tops of the shoulders to really highlight them and make them nice and glowy.

Picking the right jeans for your body shape

I opted for a simple pair of denims with this look and no surprise which jeans I wore? Yep, Molly’s from River Island (see them here) From my years of personal shopping with all shapes and sizes, I found almost all shapes can be catered for with River Island jeans – I love that they have short, regular and long lengths and they also now have a plus size range. I always buy the ‘Regular’ length. I personally find the ‘Molly’ style a winner for me and I am a very classic pear shape (this means I have a smaller waist but larger hips and bum and a longer torso which would be classic pear shape characteristics). Another style worth trying and especially for slimmer builds is the ‘Amelie’ style.

Classic 'Molly' jeans, River Island, €50 Shop here
Classic ‘Molly’ jeans, River Island, €50 Shop here

Molly style jeans come in high waisted and mid wasted styles which are brilliant if you are tummy conscious as they really hold you in. So that’s a classic ‘Apple’ shape if you carry more weight in your tummy area but have slim legs.

I find ladies with a slimmer build overall and longer slim legs tend to go for the ‘Amelie’ style jeans.

Amelie Style jeans, River Island, €50 Shop here
Amelie Style jeans, River Island, €50 Shop here

Other brands of jeans I recommend trying if you are on the hunt for the ‘perfect fitting jeans’ are; Salsa Jeans, Freddy jeans, and ‘Leigh’ style jeans in Topshop.

For maternity jeans (a question I get asked all the time), I think everyone is so different, but personally I lived in the New Look over the bump jeans & ASOS leggings. See styles I loved during my pregnancy HERE.

Ah my rose gold heels, do I even need to say why I love the beauties? I got these in River Island but they are sold out now, but… Fear not, I’ve found an identical pair (also cheaper) here.

Heels: ASOS, €33.32 Shop HERE

Rose gold and metallics a huge trend for Autumn/ Winter and what I love about these heels is, much like a classic pair of nude court heels, they will go with EVERYTHING! The perfect colour and ideal for a more casual look, like here with my jeans, but they are equally gorgeous with a dress or a glam skirt!

Hope you enjoyed the post 🙂

‘Til next time
