Wardrobe Must Haves For Spring

I recently worked with gift card company One4allย on a nationwide survey into our spending and shopping habits (You can read more about the results of this survey here).
O4A-Gift-Cards-MainThe results proved very interesting….. 1 in 5 of us plan to turn over a new shopping leaf in 2015 apparently!! The survey also revealed that stopping impulse buying is our number one shopping goal for the year ahead. Based on these results, I developed some ‘Style Commandments’ (See them here) in association with One4all to help you gain some more focus on your shopping and avoid that dreaded impulse buy!!!!
So to keep in the same theme of helping you to shop smarter and be more savvy when it comes to your purchases, I have compiled a list of my Top 3 Spring Must Haves.

What makes an ‘investment’ piece?

The key to a great clothing investment, in my opinion, is choosing items that will work across your wardrobe. Pieces that can create loads of different outfits. Pieces that can be dressed up or down and pieces that can be mixed and matched across your entire wardrobe. You should look for items that complement your current wardrobe, rather than buying something and then chasing your tail trying to figure out what to match with it!

Spring Must Have’s

1) Good fitting jeans

When it comes to jeans, it is so important to find the right pair for YOU. The key is to try on lots of styles. It’s not necessarily about buying the most expensive pair, it’s about finding the pair that’s suits, complements and flatters your shape. The jeans I love to wear are River Island, I find the fit really great. I also love high waisted or mid waisted jeans, as I have quite a long torso, higher waisted styles suit me best. Other brands that I love and many of my personal shopping clients love include: Salsa Jeans, Dr Denim, J Brand, 7 for all Man kind and on the highstreet Oasis and Topshop. This pair below are the ideal colour and style to form the basis of any Spring wardrobe. I also love white jeans for Spring/ Summer – They are ideal for creating lost of of chic Spring/ Summer looks (River Island do the ‘Molly’ style in cream too, see them here)

2) A versatile blazer

I love a blazer that can be dressed up and down depending on the occasion. One that can be mixed and matched throughout your wardrobe. One that works as well with skinny jeans and cons as it does draped over your shoulders with a dress. I always suggest to my clients that a good fitting black blazer is a ‘must have’ in your wardrobe. Here’s a great one from H&M. Given we are now in Spring (yaaay), a neutral coloured blazer is the perfect wardrobe staple – So white/ cream/ beiges/ nude. When it comes to good blazers Topshopย always have an excellent selection and I find their tailoring really brilliant. Other shops I love for blazers and jackets are; H&M, Mango and River Island. This off white/ nude one from Topshop is perfect!

ย 3) The Perfect Skirt

This is the season of separates – Dresses are taking a backseat and it’s all about skirts. I LOVE a great versatile skirt, because you can get so much more wear out of it compared to a dress. You can dress it up or down so easily. Go for a style that flatters your body shape and opt for a colour or print that can be matched into your current wardrobe. There are so many great skirts in stores right now. Shops that have good options in now include Warehouse, Oasis, New Look and River Island. I am particularly loving the selection from Warehouse this season. This one is fab and is right at the top of my Spring wish list – it would just go with so much. You could style it with black tights, a jumper and ankle boots for right now, and as the temperatures start to heat up you can always ditch the tights and start wearing it with lighter, brighter spring colours. It could be worn with black, creams, pinks or greys to form the basis of lots of different looks!
