Trend Report: Over the Knee Boots
There is no hiding from it, over-the-knee boots are a HUGE look this Autumn/ Winter season.
We saw the trend emerge with gusto last year and it is certainly back with a bang this season. No matter what, this is always a trend that divides opinion; some people love them, some people really hate them and some people tell me they really struggle knowing how to style them/ wear them. Personally, I am a big fan, I think when styled ‘right’ they are really fab!
Lastly, the single biggest question we get asked here when it comes to over-the-knee boots is; Do you have to be tall to wear them? ย We’ve taken all your comments on board, rounded up tonnes of street style inspiration to give you some ideas on how to style them plus we have trawled the shoes and found our top buys this season. Enjoy ๐
Street Style Inspiration – How to wear & style Over-The-Knee Boots
Style Tips
- My personal preference is for suede; I think leather or shiny can sometimes look a little too pretty woman, but that’s just a personal preference. If you prefer leather then there are loads of nice options available.
- Style with skinny jeans and opt for looser layers on top e.g. a blouse and jumper or a long length cardi
- They look great worn with skirts and dresses too, keep the top half simple and don’t show too much flesh
- Flat over-the-knee boost look equally as great and are 100% what I will be investing in this AW15/16
Can I wear over-the-knee boots if I am small?
You know me by now; I am not of the belief that you CAN’T wear something. To hell with that, wear what you want as long as you are happy and feel good. When it comes to my professional opinion as I stylist? I think, yes, you can wear them. I would suggest opting for knee high OR ones that are just slightly above the knee, don’t go for the very high (thigh high ones for example). Styling rules remain the same, opt for looser knits on your upper half (don’t go for anything too long in a cardi/ jumper as you will then only see a tiny bit of your leg). Always keep in mind… It is all about proportion. One of my fav style inspirations is the ever chic Miro Duma. Miro is 5 foot and I think she rocks over-the-knee boots:
