Trend Report: Culottes
Yep, you read that right, I did say Culottes!! ๐ They are set to be a huge trend for Spring/ Summer 2015 with all the highstreet stores from Zara and River Island, to Topshop, Oasis and Penneys all including some great styles in their new SS15 collections.
I know there will certainly be some mixed feelings on culottes, but I for one, am really excited to wear a pair! If you opt for a really wide leg pair, it looks almost the exact same as wearing a full midi skirt, except when you walk. So, before you make your mind up on them, have a read of this ๐
I’ve seen lots of celebs (namely Victoria Beckham & Olivia Palermo) wearing them, plus tonnes of my favourite international fashion bloggers have been rocking them, and I think they look great. Personally I like the higher waisted, wide legged styles.
I think they can look really elegant, and they are also super flattering. To get started I would opt for a block colour, wide legged pair, before you start experimenting with prints, narrower legs and fabrics such a leather!! (And yes, leather look culottes are a thing!!) Style Advice
There’s no need to be scared to try culottes, style them as you would a midi skirt or a full skirt. Slim/ tight fitting tops will also work best with them and be more flattering. For the braver among you, crop tops will look great with higher waisted styles. Heels are an absolute must when it comes to culottes. And for those ofyou who are slightly smaller or more petite – Opt for shorter (and slimmer fitting) styles (anything around the shin will be too long for you, think of what length works best for you with skirts)
When I invest in culottes (I haven’t decided on which pair yet), I plan to wear them with a tight fitting top worn tucked in (or else a crop top) finished with a tailored blazer and some high pointy heels
