My top beauty products for travelling

I am just back from three glorious weeks in Portugal; we rented a car and travelled around, from Luz to Sagres and finally to Quinta Do Lago. As a family of 5, you can just imagine I had a lot to pack so I didn’t have tonnes of space for beauty products. I narrowed it down to my favourites, the essentials only… My hubby commented it was a hell of a lot apparently, but compared to home routine this is minimal ๐Ÿ˜‰

TANNING

I got a spray tan before I left, I always do before holidays, I love the glow and I feel more confident. I moisturise intensively after a spray tan, I always opt for a really basic nourishing moisturiser, which I purchased out there – The likes of E45 is ideal, try to opt for something that isn’t very oily. After a few days when the colour starts to fade, I started on a gradual tanner… I’ve tried lots and most are great, Garnier do a fab one, the St Tropez one is great, and the Dove one is also a great buy. My personal preference is Vita Liberata ‘Fabulous gradual tanning lotion” I find this one gives a gorgeous colour, it is very moisturising, and I like how it builds. Tip; use a buffer brush to apply to your hands, feet, ankles, knees and face. I suffer with incredibly dry knees so I always apply extra moisturiser on my knees before applying

If I don’t use this and want to just give my face a lift, I use Wonder Water by Sosu Cosmetics. I also cover my hair (this would stain blondes), and use a buffer brush or make up brush to smooth into the hairline.

MAKE UP

When it comes to make up on holidays, I dent’ tend to wear any during the day , except maybe sometimes some of my face SOS glow (see below – obsessed with this product) At night, I wear foundation, but adore light weight products when in the heat.

1.Base/ Primer: Clarins SOS Primer : I love this either alone or under foundation – this gives the most gorgeous glow. It’s described as ‘ highlighting complexion with a radiant golden glow’, and whilst described as a primer, I think its great worn just on it’s own too.

2. Bronzer: Clarins Bronzer: An odlie but a goodie, I think this is one the best bronzing compacts out there. This one is part of a limited edition available – a must have ! If I am not using this I use the Charlotte Tilburry one

3. Foundation: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation : Over the last year this has become my go to foundation, if you like heavy coverage you won’t like this. It is extremely lightweight. When I want a heavier foundation I always opt for Armani Luminous Silk (I wear shade 5.5) But for me, for hols, this Chanel one is the dream. I wear shade 40 beige (In summer when I tend to wear fake tan)

4.Concelaer: Sculpted by Aimee Brighten Up concealer and Sculpted by Aimee Complexion Brush ; I wear shade beige in this brightening concealer and find it brilliant for under the eyes ; I always use this brush (the smaller side) for blending. And then I love this brush (larger side) for foundation

5. Blusher: Sculpted By Aimee Cream Luxe Blush ; I can jump a little on my blusher, but I always use a cream blusher my usual favourite is Trinny London Lip 2 Cheek (in shade Freddie or lady J), I tried out this Irish brand for a change , I went for shade Dusty Rose and the colour is gorgeous, but just doesn’t last as well as the Trinny one I am used to.

6. Brows/ Lashes ; Always opt for Masterstroke Brow Trio by Brow Aid and the I wear shade Taupe . I have very ‘gappy’ brows, one side being way worse than the other so I find this great for filling.

I always treat myself to semi permanent lashes before a holiday so never a need for mascara. When I am using mascara , my no 1 go to is Lancome Lash Idole

7. Lips; On the right is my daily lip balm – adore this one from La Mer, I can be prone to cold sores in the sun so I find a good layer of this really protects my lips. For evenings, I don’t tend to wear much actual lipstick on holidays, instead I opt for this Volumiser Gloss from La Mer, my go to gloss. If I am wearing lippy my favourites are; Love Story and Going to the Chapel – both from Sarah Keary Make up. The best two nude lippies you will find, shop here

SKINCARE

I always find it next to impossible to choose what skincare to bring on holidays, I don’t like missing out on any of my daily essentials…

Neck cream: I started using The Elevator from Trinny London about 6 months ago and I wouldn’t be without it now. I bought this mini size for travelling.

Serum + Moisturiser: Using all Trinny London skincare at the mo and really noticing the difference in my skin – brought my full sizes ones of these but there are minis available. I use the ‘Bounce Back’ Moisturiser and the ‘ Plump Up’ Serum (morning and night – ps a little goes a long way on this product)

Hair

I brought all my fav products with me in mini travel containers (which I bought in Boots), always careful with my hair when in the sun and try to wear a hat as much as possible to avoid too much direct sunlight, I also always apply a mask before hopping in the pool – this really helps with any damage from the pool water. When I got home from holidays, I was straight into my hairdrerres for a Detox Mud mask and a toner which really helped refresh my blonde and get rid of any yellow tinge from the sun.

  1. Shampoo: Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me
  2. Conditioner: Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Rinse
  3. Mask: Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Mask
  4. Styling: Kevin Murphy ‘Bedroom Hair’ texture spray and my old reliable dry shampoo. I love the Living Proof one (smells amazing), but I ran out while away and bought one in the supermarket over there which did the job perfectly.

Hope you enjoyed that round up. Its been a few years since I actually sat down to write a blog post, I needed a little refreshing on how to do it, but it also reminded me how much I love writing.

hi Naomi, hope u had a super holiday. I found this review of products super helpful especially your skincare products. I’ve never used the Trinny London ones at all so will definitely give these a go. going out I use the armani luminous silk so wud love a lighter one as you suggested. I also tend to lash on way to much serums and they are so expensive so I’ll use a little less.
unfortunately I’m allergic to all fake tans whatever is in them.
thank you so much for your reviews xxx
