Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons
Last week my friend and I took a little road trip to Newbridge in Kildare to visit the Museum of Style Icons. I had no idea what to expect to be honest and wow I was completely blown away! If you’re like me and yourself and the girls are always keen to find something a bit different to do, then this is your answer. My friend drove (I am blaming the pregnancy on being so lazy lately), and we were there in less than an hour (from Dublin) which was so handy!
When you arrive you are greeted at the door by the original car from the Dukes of Hazzard, which is incredibly cool and will be on display there until the end of July. The iconic car from Grease joins the display on the 9th July (how cool is that?) Plenty of goofy selfie opportunities to be had ๐ Then to kick of our day we had a yummy lunch in the gorgeous Silver Restaurant (just underneath the museum).
The Museum of Style Icons (or M.O.S.I. for short) boasts one of the worldโs largest and most unique collections of style and cinema memorabilia including garments and artefacts once worn by Audrey Hepburn, Princess Grace, Lady Diana, Elizabeth Taylor (to name just a few) plus a new modern collection featuring pieces worn by Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham.
I was lucky enough to be given a personal tour of the museum and all of the items by the very charismatic CEO of Newbridge Silverware William Doyle.
I got to hear first hand some of the incredible stories behind some of the costumes and memorabilia including hearing how he came to acquire his very first item for the the museum; a breathtaking LBD worn by Audrey Hepburn which was designed by the legendary Givenchy. It was so fascinating.
The museum is a haven for film fanatics and fashionistas alike, it boasts an outstanding and unique array of authentic movie memorabilia including the chiffon dress worn by Grace Kelly in the Hollywood classic High Society (WOW) and Audrey Hepburnโs iconic hot pink cocktail dress from one of my favourite movies; Breakfast at Tiffanyโs.
It is also home to original garments worn by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.
I highly recommend paying it a visit, it’s ideal for a little road trip with the girls, or your mum (I know my mum would love it too), and what is really amazing is that it is free in!!! I couldn’tย believe that. In fact it was voted as one of the top five free attractions in Ireland. When you’ve had a look around MOSI you can then go back downstairs for a mooch around the shop with all their gorgeous jewellery and homeware collections.
I was spoilt rotten by Newbridge Silverware and given the most amazing goody bag which featured some outstanding pieces from the Greta Garbo range as well as the most beautiful watch from their new Guinness range.
