The Mammy Diaries: The First Night Out

Last Friday night I had my first official night out since my little lady arrived. I was a mess. I cried the entire way in the taxi. My mum was babysitting so she couldn’t have been in better hands, but I think all logic went out the window, and I was just so upset leaving her.
We were lucky enough to get our hands on tickets to U2 so I had the date of said “night out” in my mind even before Anabelle arrived. I had been to’ing and fro’ing for WEEKS about whether I would go or not, I wanted to go, but I also was dreading the thoughts of leaving her!!! I think it’s a feeling only another first time mamas will relate to. In fact lots of you left me such lovely supportive comments on my Instagarm when I shared the picture from the night and so many of my fellow first time mums were saying they were dreading their first night out too.
But, guess what…. I survived, in fact, I had a ball! Once the tears subsided and I pulled myself together, it felt great to be out, and to be “me” again, it also felt really lovely spending some time with my hubby Cormac, just us! Even if we spent the night talking about her!!
Anabelle Ivy was on my mind pretty much every single minute and I text my mum far too many times enquiring how they were doing… but all in all it was a great success and a lovely night.
I think it is one of those monumental moments of every first time mammy – Wanting to get out and about again, but still feeling such dread about it!

So, what did I wear?

Deciding what to wear (and finding something that actually fits me) was a whole other drama!!! I had ordered a shirt dress online but it hadn’t arrived in time, so I had to pull something together. No joking, I probably changed twenty times before leaving the house! From jeans, skirts, dresses, I couldn’t decide what looked best and what best concealed my “mummy tummy”ย enough that I felt comfy, confident and yet “me” ๐Ÿ™‚
I finally settled on a black dress from Ted Baker, it is a really simple black dress (you can’t go wrong), and it has white cuffs and collar. I wore it with heavy denier black tights, black suede over-the knee boots, a black fur gilet and my Chanel bag. Yes, a lot of black, but I felt good! And you know what I say…. If in doubt… Wear an LBD. My dress was last season but they have an almost identical style in this season (and I found a similar option on ASOS too) in case you are planning your own first night out and are in need of some outfit inspo.

Mummy diary blogs are fab. But any suggestions for the breastfeeding mums? I’m living in jeans and leggings as tops the easiest access.
