Outfit Diaries: Wedding in Virginia Park Lodge

Hey ladies
Last weekend we attended our good friends wedding in the amazing Virginia Park Lodge, wow it’s an incredibly venue, I had heard so much about it and was so excited about it and to sample the food (off course). We were so so impressed; it’s an amazing venue and incredibly delicious food. If you have a wedding coming up there soon, you are definitely in for a treat! We were staying in the main house and rooms…oh my word the rooms are fab!!!
If you follow me on Snapchat (username: thestylefairy) you might have seen I had a bit of a wardrobe disaster two days before the wedding! Without going into all the detail again, basically I had ordered an outfit online (an ASOS skirt and a Missguided top), and never tried it on until two nights before…… NOT a good idea!
As some of you may know, I am a type one diabetic and I wear an insulin pump, which is essentially a device about the size of a phone (but ALOT thicker and chunkier) and it is connected to my tummy via a long wire, so obviously, with that attached to me 24/7 sometimes finding the right clothes to conceal it can be a nightmare!
Normally I wear it tucked into my bra and it’s not even obvious (well most of the time), so anyway, the top that I got and was SO excited to wear I tried on and I wasn’t able to wear a bra with it so I had no wear to attach the pump, the other option for my pump is to strap it to the top of my leg, BUT the skirt I bought was a tight skirt so there was no way! So, yes I was raging and stressed as I had nothing to wear and because I had been so looking forward to wearing THAT outfit. Anyway, the joys of living with Type 1 diabetes and a pump…. a story for another day! Let’s just say there were a few tears! Day to day life you just get on with it, and sometimes you even forget you are wearing it, but days like this just made me realise how restrictive it can be, and as a woman, and a woman who loves fashion, that’s hard.
Last minute (the day before the wedding) I was in Cavan, but went online and saw this dress in Covet, thankfully it was available to rent that weekend so my amazing husband picked it up for me and I tried it on the minute he got home that night, you can imagine my panic at 10pm the night before the wedding…. with not even my tan done!!!!! Anyway, I tried it on, it fit me and I LOVED it.

I felt so good in this dress, because the bottom is so full I was able to strap the pump to the top of my leg and you couldn’t see it! So Covet really saved the day (oh and my husband!!)

The top part of this dress is made from neoprene fabric so it is so stretchy and comfortable. Plus you can get away with no bra as it really holds you in, although if you were a bit bigger than me in the boob department I would suggest wearing cups.

For anyone who doesn’t know about Covet, it is a boutique based in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin and it rents designer gowns and dresses, so it’s perfect for a big occasion and they have some really beautiful stuff. Plus you get to wear designer for the day without the hefty designer price tag!

I wore this dress with my black painted Jimmy Choo heels, rose gold earrings from Parfois and a rose gold sparkly clutch bag from Jennifer Wyrnne. I absolutely adore this clutch bag and just know it will go with so much! If you’re on the hunt for a statement clutch bag and I highly recommend you check out the fabulous range Jennifer has in her boutique and online.

The morning of the wedding I had my hair done with the lovely Serena in Tibo Hair Salon in Cavan – She always does my hair and just always gets it right, I wanted really loose, undone waves for this dress and she nailed it. Then I had my make up done by the brilliant Deirdre O’Reilly. I’ll have a blog post live very soon from Deirdre with a full product list on what she used on me, but safe to say I was thrilled with how it turned out, as I always am when Deirdre dismay make up.

With all the preps done, we were on the road, slightly late (as usual). We had a brilliant day of great food, lots of wine, good friends, loads of laughing and a silly amount of dancing!
